Fountain University Amir Emerges Winner at Hackathon Competition with Innovative Education Solution 

The Amir of Fountain University Muslim Students’ Society (FUMSS), Muadh Monsur, and his team’s Syntex Squad’ have emerged victorious in the Hackathon Competition, securing a cash prize of two hundred thousand naira. The competition was one of the highlights of the week-long activities celebrating Fountain University’s 14th Convocation Ceremony. 

The event, held on Thursday at the Eti-Osa lecture theatre hall, provided a platform for students to showcase their innovative ideas addressing pressing global challenges.

Muadh Monsur’s pitch, titled PQ-AI, focused on achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education. The platform is designed specifically for Fountain University students, offering instant access to solved past questions across all departments. The innovation aims to simplify academic preparation, enabling students to efficiently study for tests and final exams while promoting academic excellence. 

Expressing his gratitude and the impact of the competition, Muadh said, “Alhamdulillah, it was a great experience. This pitch challenged my team and me, especially me, to find a solution for Fountain University and to develop solutions that are not just sustainable but also scalable and business-oriented. We are not just solving problems; we are also creating a business. That critical mindset is what I gained from participating in this competition, and I’m grateful to everyone who supported me.”

The hackathon, organized under the university’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Day program, aimed to cultivate problem-solving skills among students while addressing critical global challenges aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants were tasked with forming teams of three to five members to develop innovative solutions targeting key SDG areas, including good health and well-being (SDG 3), quality education (SDG 4), clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), affordable and clean energy (SDG 7), and sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11). 

Speaking about the initiative, the program coordinator, Dr Rasheed Adebiyi, explained, “The Hackathon is designed to raise students as problem-solvers who can identify and address pressing issues. Our goal is to nurture and develop ideas or solutions into viable products or services that can make a tangible impact.” 

The competition also serves as a strategic framework to catalyze the innovation ecosystem within the university. Participants were encouraged to create commercially viable solutions that could potentially be developed into products or services under the guidance of the institution’s innovation centre. 

Muadh Monsur’s innovative solution stood out among numerous submissions, earning him the top prize and recognition as a leading innovator within the university community. As the winner, he will represent Osogbo in Abuja for the next phase of the hackathon, where his project will compete at the national level.

The innovation centre, which spearheaded the Hackathon, reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and creativity on campus. “We are dedicated to equipping both staff and students with the tools to innovate and make meaningful contributions to society,” a representative from the centre noted. 

This achievement is a testament to the university’s emphasis on academic excellence, practical problem-solving, and empowering students to become future leaders and innovators.
