FUMSS Welcomes New Students at Freshers’ Orientation Programme

The Fountain University Muslim Students Society (FUMMS) on Saturday officially welcomed newly admitted students through its annual Freshers’ Orientation Programme, featuring Quran recitations, leadership speeches and interactive activities aimed at fostering unity, academic excellence and strong Islamic values within the campus community.

The event, held at the Amina Namadi Sambo Hall, was themed “Fresh Start, Faithful Steps and Fearless Future” According to the organisers, the theme was designed to equip freshers with renewed purpose, firm faith, and the confidence to face academic and personal challenges as they begin their university journey.

In his welcome address, the FUMSS Amir, Abiola Abdullahi, urged the new students to uphold discipline, strive for academic excellence, and maintain exemplary Islamic character. He described FUMSS as a supportive community committed to offering guidance, learning opportunities, and spiritual development.

The Amirah, Alatise Faizah, addressed the female students, stressing the importance of modesty, unity, and balancing academic responsibilities with spiritual obligations. She encouraged the sisters to actively participate in FUMMS programmes and uphold the values of integrity and sisterhood.

The FUMSS General Secretary, Akinbo Abdullah, outlined the administrative structure of the society and explained the responsibilities of various offices. He emphasised the importance of punctuality, teamwork, and effective communication as key ingredients for academic and personal success.

As part of efforts to further guide the freshers, departmental presidents present at the event were invited to share valuable advice and insights to help the new students adjust to university life. Representing the Students’ Central Executive Committee (SCEC) President, Osuolale Hameed, the General Secretary, Imran Adam, delivered a motivational speech centred on leadership, campus engagement and positive contribution to the university community. He encouraged the freshers to participate in Students’ Union activities, join productive associations, and build meaningful networks. He concluded by urging them to remain resilient, excellent, and united.

The event also featured an interactive session, which included a lively Kahoot quiz, with over 50 students taking part. Suad, Aishat, and Misturah emerged as the top winners. Another activity, the Chore Game, saw Khadijah and Aishah emerge victorious, adding fun and excitement to the programme.

The orientation concluded on a positive note, marking the end of a well-organised and impactful session designed to strengthen Islamic values, promote camaraderie, and encourage active participation among both new and returning students.
