FUMSS Holds Inauguration for 24/25 Executives

The new executive officers of Fountain University Muslim Students Society (FUMSS) were formally sworn in on Saturday, November 9th, taking up their responsibilities to advance the society’s mission in accordance with Islamic principles.

The ceremony took place at the Eti-Osa Lecture Theatre during the Leadership Training Program, which had the theme “Servant Leadership with Compassion and Purpose in Islam.” The event featured several notable speakers who discussed the importance of faith-based leadership.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Olayinka Ramota Kareem, who was a guest speaker, spoke to the new leaders about their role as stewards. She emphasized that leadership is about caring for and guiding others on the path of goodness.

She noted that leadership should be seen as an opportunity to earn Allah’s pleasure and should be approached as an act of worship. She concluded by reminding the new executives that “Allah is pleased with those who call others to His path with wisdom and patience, fulfilling their roles with academic and spiritual dedication.”

Dr. Ridwan Kolawole from the Mass Communication Department gave a talk titled “Leading with Faith: Cultivating Spiritual Integrity, Sacrifice, and Active Participation in Dawah.” He stressed the importance of ‘iman’ (faith) in leadership and how it is essential for leaders to thrive in their roles.

He encouraged the new leaders to resist the influence of Shaytan and maintain strong belief. Dr. Kolawole also advised them to foster unity by building strong relationships with both practicing and non-practicing Muslims, ensuring their actions align with the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He added that Muslims should always demonstrate behavior worthy of emulation.

Dr. Amudatu Adedokun from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science spoke on the topic “Leading with Vitality: The Role of Physical and Mental Health in Effective Leadership.” She highlighted that mental health is crucial for effective leadership and that a leader’s well-being influences their ability to face challenges. According to Dr. Adedokun, both physical and mental health must be maintained to achieve goals. She encouraged students to stay physically active through sports and other activities to strengthen their ability to fulfill their responsibilities.

The program concluded with the dissolution of the previous executive committee. The new officers then took their oath of allegiance, led by Deputy Registrar Imam Rauf Abdulmumin, pledging to serve diligently and uphold the values of FUMSS in their dedication to Allah’s call.
