FUMSS Holds First Muslim Students’ Compass

The Fountain University Muslim Students’ Society (FUMSS) has held the maiden edition of Muslim Students’ Compass, a platform designed to discuss issues affecting Muslim students during their stay on campus and in life generally.

The virtual programme, organized by the Da’wah Committee, was held on Sunday via Google Meet and focused on “Beyond Books and Degrees: Finding the Right Balance Between Academic Success and Building Lasting Relationships.”

The session was facilitated by a former Amir of FUMSS, Dr. Lawal Muhammed, who spoke extensively on how students can live purposeful lives while managing both academics and personal responsibilities.

Dr Lawal noted that there are four steps in pursuing a great academic success, including clear purpose and intention, discipline and consistency, good time management and supportive environment are the guideline for balancing academic success and building lasting relationship. He emphasized that in academics, having a clear purpose and intention is essential. “Success is not just about acquiring degrees but about seeking knowledge for the right reasons, to benefit oneself, the community, and to please Allah,” he said.

He also stressed that balance is not a luxury but a necessity. Islam places importance on fulfilling the rights of others and excelling in academics while neglecting parents, friends, or colleagues creates imbalance. “True success means fulfilling both duties to Allah and duties to people,” he concluded.
