A Trip To Remember With FUMSS

The Fountain University Muslim Student’s Society (FUMSS) organised an exciting tour in Osogbo for new students to give them an enriching introduction to Osogbo, a vibrant city tour on Sunday. The tour aimed to familiarise students with the city’s historical, cultural, and notable landmarks while fostering friendship among participants.

The city tour started with a drive through notable spots in Osogbo, including the August 9 Bridge, Garage Ilese Roundabout, and Ake De Iyaloja ati Iyalode, where students saw Osogbo’s vibrant community life.

The group also visited key locations such as Oke Baale Roundabout, Taara Area, Ilu Dun Area, Testing Ground, and Stadium, where they paused for a quick stop.

After a brief visit to the stadium, the journey continued to Orita Baba Oni Sekere, Igbono Market, where students observed local trade and culture, and Freedom Park, where a group photo captured the spirit of unity and fun.

The tour also included a drive through UniOsun Hospital, which provided students with a sense of the city’s educational and healthcare landscape.

The highlight for many participants was the final stop, which brought together spirituality and culture. The group observed Solat at the Osogbo Central Mosque. Following this, they visited the town’s most popular amala spot, Alhaja Alamala Palace, where students enjoyed a delicious meal of amala. 

This shared experience offered more than just a taste of Osogbo’s culinary heritage; it showcased the warmth and hospitality of the city, leaving everyone with full hearts and satisfied appetites. 

On the way back, the group passed the Africa Bridge, marking the end of a journey filled with learning and connection.

The tour was made even more engaging with the assistance of both Sodiq Adeboye and Aliyyah Isa-Adewoyin, who took on the role of the tour guide. Their knowledge of Osogbo’s landmarks and lively storytelling added depth to the experience, making it both educational and entertaining for the students.

Reflecting on the day, Sodiq shared his thoughts “Alhamdulillah, it was a great adventure. I didn’t know I would be this instrumental for the tour. I had a great time with the new students, and I’m very sure they all enjoyed it. This is just a testament to the mission of FUMSS to ensure inclusiveness for all our students.”  Aliyah expression was: “Alhamdulillah, I had a truly wonderful time; it was definitely worth it. Being a tour guide isn’t an easy task, but I’m really glad we had fun. I’m also confident the students benefited greatly from learning where to buy their food supplies, catch buses to their destinations, and lots more.”

The tour left a lasting impression on many students, including Fakhira Oamen, who shared her excitement: “The tour today was amazing! I didn’t think it would turn out so well. In the beginning, I was bored and just wanted to go back to the hostel, but I kept an open mind, and it turned out pretty well. I just want to say a very big thank you to the FUMSS association and to everyone, including you. Today was truly amazing. Looking forward to something like this shortly!”

The tour was packed with moments of joy and discovery, as described by the students:

Aliyah Akeeb also expressed, “It was interesting! We first went to Freedom Park just to enjoy the view. Then we went to an amala spot to buy amala. Trust me, the amala was sweet.”

Their words highlight the value of the experience and the efforts of the organizers in making the day memorable.

Muadh Monsur express, as part of the FUMSS organizers, highlighted the essence of the tour, saying, “The trip was a highly insightful and refreshing addition to our Freshers Orientation Week. Although a larger bus would have provided more comfortable seating and an earlier start could have enhanced the experience, the students had a fantastic time and truly enjoyed themselves. I hope this activity becomes a regular highlight in future orientation programs.”

The FUMSS city tour not only introduced students to Osogbo but also created memories and friendships that will shape their time at Fountain University. With the success of this event, the society remains committed to organizing impactful activities that enrich both the academic and social lives of its members.
