FUMSS Shines at Da’wah Week Competition in Ede, Wins First in Qur’an Category

The Fountain University Muslim Students’ Society (FUMSS) has recorded an outstanding achievement after emerging first in the Qur’an (Juz’ 5) category and third in the inter-school debate contest at the Da’wah Week Competition organised by MSSN Federal Polytechnic Ede, last Saturday.

The annual event brought together Muslim students from several tertiary institutions across Southwestern Nigeria, with the aim of promoting Islamic intellectual excellence, da’wah engagement, and healthy academic rivalry among youth.

Representing FUMSS in the Qur’an category, Abubakar Maimunah and AbdulAzeez AbdulRahman secured first place, bringing honour to the society.
Maimunah described the experience as deeply spiritual and transformative.

“For me, winning the Qur’an competition goes beyond just being announced as the winner. I do not see it as a matter of winning or losing, I see it as an opportunity to assess myself.

Every competition pushes me to deepen my murāja’ah (revision), strengthen my relationship with the Qur’an, and reflect on its meanings. It reminds me that the Qur’an should not be left aside after memorization, it requires consistent recitation and reflection. Allah does not ask for perfection, but for consistency.

Personally, this has renewed my commitment to stay close to the Qur’an every day, not only when a competition is near.

As for FUMSS, this victory is a great blessing. It is not just my win, it is a win for all of us. It reflects our unity, effort, and dedication. When we strive sincerely for the sake of Allah and His Book, He blesses our efforts with success.”

Abubakar Maisara and Raji Romlah, who also represented FUMSS in the debate category and secured 3rd place, also shared their experience.

“It was a tough and competitive session. We had aimed for first place, but Allah knows best. Despite the challenge, it was a valuable and enriching experience, and we are grateful for the opportunity to represent FUMSS.”

The leadership of FUMSS expressed gratitude to Allah and commended the team’s effort, reaffirming its commitment to fostering academic excellence, Qur’anic literacy, and purposeful Muslim leadership within Fountain University.
